کربنات پتاسیم (K2CO3) نمکی سفید رنگ، محلول در آب (نامحلول در اتانول) است، که به شدت قلیایی است. از واکنش هیدروکسید پتاسیم با دی اکسید کربن ، کربنات پتاسیم ساخته می شود. این ترکیب رطوبت پذیر است و اغلب ظاهری خیس و آبکی دارد. کاربرد آن به زمان های دور برمی گردد که در رنگبرهای نساجی ،ساخت شیشه و تولید صابون کاربرد داشته است. کربنات پتاسیم در آب حل می شود و تشکیل محلولی قلیایی را می دهد. این ترکیب در مقادیر زیادی از انواع صنایع استفاده می شود.
